Abstract: A forestry investment transaction in New Zealand can be undertaken in a number of ways. Whether an investor is looking to acquire a freehold interest in land and trees, a forestry right or a lease, and whether this is done via a company, a partnership a trust or other vehicle, will depend on the nature of the transaction and the investor. In this article we highlight some of the more typical ownership structures, and the most common forestry interests, as a brief overview to assist investors when looking at acquiring a forest in New Zealand.
