Abstract: The long-term health, resilience and sustainability of New Zealand’s forests relies on the ongoing performance and successful management of our comprehensive, multilayered, biosecurity system. This includes international standard setting and offshore, pre-border, border and post border risk management activities, as well as international trade initiatives (as discussed in previous sections). The New Zealand Forest Owners Association (FOA) administers the Forest Biosecurity Committee (FBC) which provides the forest growing industry with strategic leadership and oversight for all aspects of forest biosecurity. It also aims to foster cohesion across the industry, government and the science community. This section outlines the role of the FBC, the environment in which it operates and some of its key strategies, programmes and initiatives.
