10.2 Climatic Risk

Authors: J R Moore

Abstract: While the physical factors of climate and soils generally provide a good growing environment for many tree species in New Zealand, certain climatic conditions can also result in damage to forests. The most notable of these conditions are wind, snow, and frost. Fire is also considered to be a climatic risk as its behaviour is highly dependent on weather and climate. In this section an overview of the former is presented, whilst fire is covered in Sections 10.3 and 10.4.
