Abstract: We believe our vision for the establishment of a durable eucalypt plantation estate is a unique opportunity to add value to New Zealand’s current forest industry. With our elite breeding populations and branding strategy we have ‘first mover’ advantage to make this a reality by forest growers planting relatively low-value, marginal pastoral dryland to produce highvalue timber. Our aim is that New Zealand will compete on innovation and excellence, rather than price, with our strategy underpinned by the increasing scarcity of tropical hardwoods and environmental constraints limiting their ongoing supply.
