Abstract: Wilding conifers are a serious established pest in New Zealand, reducing the productivity of primary industries and damaging the environmental, social, cultural and landscape values that this country is renowned for. This paper examines how wilding conifers became established, how they are being controlled, and the impact they are having on planted forests. It also describes the first year of the national Wilding Conifer Management Programme.
