Abstract: He huruhuru te manu ka rere: When the bird has feathers it flies away. Abstract The threat to New Zealand’s wildlife from invasive species is ever present. The Department of Conservation (DOC) has the mandate to protect native species, and with recent innovations in understanding pest behaviour predicting their population trends, it has been able to minimise that threat. The prospect of a predator free New Zealand by the year 2050 means that this country needs to continually investigate options for pest control. In the meantime, the battle for native wildlife continues with the tools available.
