Abstract: A phytotron is a powerful research tool providing controlled, reproducible conditions over a range of simulated climates for plant growth. Although these facilities are costly to build and maintain, they would enable the tree physiologist, silviculturist, forest pathologist, etc., to work more speedily, accurately and more efficiently — as well as allowing research which otherwise would be impossible. Not least of the advantages of a phytotron is that it brings together the tree physiologist, geneticist, and others to work on common or related problems.
