Registration Board Newsletter
Dear Registered Member
With the 2022 year almost to its end, the Registration Board wishes to keep you up to date on relevant matters. We also hope that you, your families, and those around you are faring all right with the recent resurgence of Covid and you have a restful Christmas and New Year.
16 December Board Meeting
The Board met via video on 16 December 2022. Matters from the 16 December meeting we wish to bring to your attention include:
1. You will be aware that on Tuesday 13th December the Registration Board sent an email to all NZIF members. This email outlined the benefits of being a NZIF Registered Members and encouraging these eligible NZIF members who also from 6 August 2023 who need to be registered under the Forests (Regulation of Log Trader and Forest Advisors) Amendment Act 2020 as Forest Advisors should also be NZIF Registered Members.
2. The Institute President, James Treadwell addressed the Board via video and provided an update regards the Institute’s process with Te Uri Rakau (TUR) New Zealand Forest Service on the Forests (Regulation of Log Trader and Forest Advisors) Amendment Act 2020. James key message as he has already communicated to all Institute members in his most recent newsletter Read more was to hold off at this time from applying to the be listed on the TUR scheme.
3. As detailed in the Tuesday 13th December email the Registration Board sent to all NZIF members, the Board expects to see an uplift in NZIF registered membership applications in the new year. The Board has plans in place to manage this expected increase.
4. The Board thought it would be helpful to remind Registered Members at this time of the year, to check their progress on obtaining their minimum annual requirement of 10 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), either structured and or unstructured (note the CPD year ends on 31 December 2022). You must have a minimum of 10 hours of CPD completed as one of the criteria to receive an annual Certificate of Registration in 2023. Also, members should note that even through the minimum requirement CPD in any one year is 10 hours you must, over a five-year period, have 100 hours of CPD. This is an average of 20 hours per annum. Also, of these 100 hours, there must be a minimum of 50 hours of structured CPD. We encourage each member to target the 20 hours p.a. and not just 10 hours otherwise there may be a big catch up required in the last year. I suggest all registered members should review the NZIF CPD policy from time to time to ensure they are following it. The CPD policy is available at Read more
Registration Board Member Profile
The Board has decided to provide Registered Members with more insight as to who are the people who make up the Board. So as part of each regular newsletter we are profiling a specific Board member. In this newsletter we are profiling Mark Morice, who was elected to the Board earlier this year.
Mark Morice. As both a registered (Land and Property) valuer and registered forestry consultant (B.Com.Ag (VFM) Dip.Fore., SPINZ, ANZIV, RMNZIF), Mark brings a multi-disciplinary professional perspective to the Board. Also, as a director of Morice Ltd, Mark has a wide range of valuation skills, predominantly in the forestry sector throughout New Zealand and brings a very current and practical view of the challenges and opportunities that NZIF Registered Members and their clients face.
