The New Zealand Institute of Forestry congratulates Dr Gordon Hosking for his recent appointment as an Officer of the NZ Order of Merit, for services to Conservation. Dr Hosking has been a member of the New Zealand Institute of Forestry since 1977, and his achievements during his career as a scientist and conservation leader, are unquestionably worthy of high honours. Dr Hosking’s contributions to the establishment and the achievements of the Project Crimson, Living Legends and Trees That Count projects are exemplary. The importance of active management of our conservation estate (through tree planting, tending, biosecurity and other measures) will increase, as pest and disease incursions become more likely, and as climate change puts additional pressure on New Zealand’s conservation forestry resource
