Abstract: Pruning and clearwood were a major part of our industry, but over the last 20–25 years they have been reduced to a relatively minor role. This opinion piece looks at the global need for clearwood, how New Zealand is good at producing it (but we could do better), clearwood markets, and log quality and cost.
