Abstract: Welcome to the November 2023 issue of the New Zealand Journal of Forestry. I have recently taken on the role of Journal Coordinator within the NZIF Council to support the Journal’s Editor, Helen Greatrex, in continuing to deliver a professional journal with quality papers and content. This Journal is a flagship for our profession. Forestry in New Zealand is under considerable scrutiny as a result of the impact of recent storm events in Tairāwhiti and Hawke’s Bay. This is reflected in some of the papers in this issue which examine the impact of Cyclone Gabrielle on our forests and provide further commentary on commercial forestry’s diminishing social licence brought about in large part by the public perception of forest management and harvesting practices.
