Abstract: Hugh Corbin, who was appointed Professor of Forestry at Auckland University College in 1925, is a somewhat forgotten figure in New Zealand’s forest history and the few references to him have been somewhat negative. This paper seeks to understand why this was so and to evaluate these judgements. In doing so it offers a reappraisal of Corbin’s time in New Zealand.
