Abstract: This paper discusses the policies and rules such as the Canterbury Resources Regional Plan, Moutere Water Management Plan and the Tasman District Regional Policy Statement, which restrict plantation forestry particularly in the water-short South Island catchments in New Zealand. The implications of this plantation forestry restriction on Canterbury forest owners are presented.
