Abstract: Evidence is presented which indicates that expenditure on measures to protect New Zealand's exotic forests from fire may be excessive, given the value of the forest which can be expected to be saved as a result. The implication of this research is that resource allocation may be optimised by reducing expenditure on exotic forest fire protection programmes.
