Abstract: A series of temperature and wind soundings to an altitude of some 3000 m was made during February and early March 1975 at Pureora in the King Country. A large controlled burn took place on 4 March. Meteorological conditions were not ideal and the behaviour of the fire was considered to be consistent with the forecast issued some hours before and with the meteorological observations made before and during the burn.
