Abstract: This Note details the windthrow and breakage of trees in some 25% of the exotic forest area of Canterbury, following a gale on 1 August 1975. On the plains most plantations with heights of more than 12 m were damaged, leaving on the ground a volume of limber which, if logged normally, would have yielded some 2.2 million cubic metres of roundwood.
