Abstract: Investigation into a suitable nursery site to supply tree stocks (mainly radiata pine) for Aupouri Forest, Northland, began in 1963. In 1966, 29.5 ha of peat land was acquired, some 6.5 km south of the Forest headquarters. Development of this site was virtually complete in 1973, much of the work having been of an experimental nature because of lack of local experience in using peat soils for a tree nursery. The various measures taken, and their results, are described.
