Abstract: In Pinus radiata stands at Woodhill Forest, Northland, comparison of stand edge trees with those growing within the stand reveals a considerable clearwood potential from the edge trees. Removal of branches from these, before excessive development occurs, prevents degrade of an otherwise valuable sawlog, enhances stand appearance, and prevents the encroachment of trees on forest roads and tracks.
