Abstract: The background to and implications of metrication for New Zealand forestry are briefly reviewed. Forest measurement in metric units is examined with particular emphasis being given to the hope that opportunities to rationalize measuring techniques will be seized. The article concludes with a plea to foresters to contribute ideas to national committees.
