Abstract: Processing of forest inventory data by electronic digital computer is essential if foresters want to use inventory data as a sound basis for the development, management and most profitable utilization of their forests. It is shown that, in order to realize the full potential of ED computers, some field practices should be modified in addition to a simple transfer of computational load. Only when many forest variables are examined simultaneously on computer can advances be made in rationalizing forest management.
