The Early Tending of Radiata Pine Regeneration

Abstract: The work content for thinning natural regeneration of radiata pine at (a) three years and again at six years is compared with (b) thinning once at six years. The results of the two regimes favour {a). This conclusion is based on evidence revealing a saving in work and sturdier and better-formed trees.
A 5 X 5 ft spacing restricts branch and knotty core-size, and target man-hours per acre are set out for thinning young regeneration accordingly.
