NZIF FOUNDATION
The NZIF Foundation recently demonstrated its commitment to fostering academic excellence and professional development by sponsoring six students to attend the ANZIF conference held in Australia.
This support allowed the selected students to immerse themselves in the latest trends, insights, and innovations within the forestry industry. Throughout the conference, these sponsored individuals actively participated in workshops, engaged in panel discussions, and networked with seasoned professionals, gaining invaluable exposure to the dynamic landscape of their field. The students returned home not only with enhanced knowledge but also with a newfound enthusiasm for their chosen careers.
Their experiences ranged from discovering emerging technologies to gaining insights into global industry practices, providing them with a broader perspective that will undoubtedly contribute to their academic and professional growth. The NZIF Foundation's sponsorship exemplifies its dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders in the forestry industry.

UPCOMING CPD WEBINARS
Undertaking Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
Undertaking Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is the responsibility of all NZIF Members to ensure they develop and maintain professional skills.
Presenters:
Russell Dale: Chair of the CPD Committee
Peter Casey, Chair of the Registration Board
NZIF expects that all members will participate in CPD and in the case of Registered Members there are CPD requirements that must be met to achieve NZIF Registered Member status and to maintain Registration.
For those NZIF registered forestry professionals providing advice for reward (who also are by NZIF placed on the MPI Forest Advisor Scheme Register), the Institute is stepping up its efforts to provide structured CPD. The Council has established a CPD Committee to place greater focus on the delivery of CPD to members. The Registration Board manages the Institutes Registration Scheme and has developed a CPD policy appropriate for all NZIF members and in particular registered members. As part of the NZIF Professional Assurance process, there is a requirement for Members to record details of the CPD they have undertaken in the Institutes online record system.
Russell Dale and Peter Casey, respectively Chair of the CPD Committee and Chair of the Registration Board, will provide an update on the Institute’s CPD plans, the Registration Board’s CPD requirements and how members should maintain records of CPD completed.

SURVEYS FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION
Have you experienced a wildfire in New Zealand’s native forests?
Have you experienced a wildfire in New Zealand’s native forests? If so, Scion’s Fire and Atmospheric Sciences team would appreciate 10 minutes of your time help us with their research. As part of the MBIE funded Extreme Wildfire programme, Scion is evaluating wildfire risk and flammability of Kauri, podocarp and beech forests. We are compiling experiential information to begin to understand what the fire risk of native forests has been and what it may look like in the future.
If you have experienced a fire in a native forest or have seen a native forest act as a fire break (where a change in fuel changes the fire behaviour), please fill out this questionnaire and share this link widely with others who
you think can provide experiences: https://forms.gle/oCB2pJQcYY25WE6j7
