Abstract: The author offers a quick opinion of the direction of future log prices for New Zealand suppliers, given global trends and developments. He notes that despite the rising demand for wood, no-one is speculating on log prices. Overall he concludes that they will continue to trend down in real terms, and anyone contemplating planting should seek to keep costs low and maximise non-wood benefits as well as forest yield.
