SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

I am calling a Special General Meeting (SGM) on Wednesday 10 November from 4-5pm via Zoom to decide if in principle NZIF would accepted the delegation of the functions of the Forestry Authority for forest advisors under the Forests (Regulation of Log Traders and Forestry Advisors) Amendment Act 2020.

MPI require our membership approval for the above so we can continue working with them on the formation of the functions. If we accept, in principle, the delegation then there would need to be changes made to our rules, which we would bring to another SGM before August 2022, when the Act comes into force. 

The motion proposed is NZIF members:

• agree the NZIF Council and Registration Board continue working with MPI over the conditions and responsibilities for implementing and managing the registration of forestry advisers under the Forests (Regulations of Log Traders and Forestry Advisers) Amendment Act 2020;
• the conditions for the delegation will require changes to the NZIF Rules, and Council must present rule changes to a SGM of NZIF members for their approval once negotiations for the delegation have been completed.

Members will be supplied further background information over the next two weeks. 

If the SGM accepts the motion above we will work with MPI to build capability to provide the functions for the Forestry Authority. Delegation will be subject to the requirements of section 63D of the Forests (Regulation of Log Traders and Forestry Advisors) Amendment Act 2020 and clause 2, schedule 6 of the Public Service Act 2020.

I am seeking strong endorsement for the above, as such I would like to see as many members as possible attend the SGM via Zoom and partake in the vote.
