Webinar: NZIF Real Estate Exemption
In 2017, after 7 years of investigation and negotiation, NZIF successfully obtained an exemption under the Real Estate Agents 2008 which allowed NZIF Registered Forestry Professionals to be involved in certain real estate transactions that can only be done by licensed real estate agents.
Apart from the short lived Forest Advisers legislation, this was the first and only time a statutory role for NZIF members has been created in legislation. The Registration Board treats the exemption as a very significant achievement for NZIF and one it focuses on when assessing applications for registration and renewal of registration. It would be a significant backwards step for NZIF if we were to lose the exemption because of non-observance of the requirements by NZIF members.
The webinar will provide answers to the following questions:
- Did you know NZIF Registered Forestry Professionals (RFP) are allowed to be involved in some real estate transactions that can otherwise only be done by a licensed real estate agent?
- Do you know what transactions are covered under the exemption?
- Do you know what you are required to do or not do under the exemption and what happens if you get it wrong?
- If you are not a RFP, what does the law say about that as far as your involvement in a real estate transaction is concerned?
The webinar will be presented by Andrew McEwen who was involved in the negotiations that lead to the exemption. Andrew has been a member of the Registration Board for the last 9 years and is well equipped to answer your questions. The webinar will also involve Paul McCready and Gareth Buchanan, both of whom have been able to take advantage of the exemption for the benefit of their clients. They will briefly describe their experiences with the exemption.
